Useful post on MSDN Channel 9 outlining the compatibility of WMV video files encoded with Microsoft Expression Encoder. Sort answer: encode with VC1-Simple or VC1-Main and the file will work with a standard Windows XP install and Windows Media Player 9. Nice.

Exporting WMV from Final Cut Pro
Ok article on exporting Windows Media from Final Cut Pro with Expression Encoder 3 (only version 4 is available now.) Expression Encoder is nice because it can read QuickTime files (finally!), although we’ve had some glitchy encodes with a sporadic pixelation in the bottom 20 pixels or so every 2 – 3 sec.
