Burning in captions

Producing pretty-ish closed (or “burnt in”) captions can be a pain, but the DCSubToAE script for After Effects does a fairly good job of syncing up YouTube generated SRT subtitles with the original clip. So the process is:

  1. Upload video to YouTube and sync transcription.
  2. Download SRT caption file.
  3. Run DCSSubToAE script and point it to the SRT file. (Remember to choose the SRT format in the format dropdown, or nothing will happen!)
  4. Tweak text formatting to taste.
  5. Import AE sequence into Premiere Pro and overlay onto master sequence.
