Producing pretty-ish closed (or “burnt in”) captions can be a pain, but the DCSubToAE script for After Effects does a fairly good job of syncing up YouTube generated SRT subtitles with the original clip. So the process is:
- Upload video to YouTube and sync transcription.
- Download SRT caption file.
- Run DCSSubToAE script and point it to the SRT file. (Remember to choose the SRT format in the format dropdown, or nothing will happen!)
- Tweak text formatting to taste.
- Import AE sequence into Premiere Pro and overlay onto master sequence.
